TFG diaries: Fishing, Scrolls, and the Path to 85 Range

Image
Thursday 31 July 2025 Day 29 – Fishing, Scrolls, and the Path to 85 Range Another long and peaceful day of  fishing in Karamja . I focused on  catching lobsters , and slowly but surely, the pile grew. I also reached  level 84 Fishing , which felt great! I love watching my skills tick upward one by one (…except  Runecrafting , which still sits stubbornly at 71 — but we don’t talk about that, do we?). In between fishing, I did two sessions of  box scrolls , opening them right away. I didn’t get anything particularly rare or valuable this time, but these little detours are still refreshing and fun — they give a nice rhythm to the grind. By the end of the day, I had banked a nice stock of food: 649 swordfish ,  735 tuna , and  822 raw lobsters ! I’m hoping this will be enough to power me through the next chapter of my  Ranging grind with the Ogresses . I was aiming to hit  level 85 Range  with this batch, but it might not quite be enough… We...

TFG diaries: The Cooking Fire of Draynor

Image
Wednesday 30 July 2025 Day 28 – The Cooking Fire of Draynor Another peaceful fishing grind today! I hauled in around  600 swordfish  and  700 raw tuna  while quietly enjoying the soothing Karamjan waters. Afterward, I took a break to solve four box scrolls that had been stacking up—and to my surprise, I finally sold the  Bryophyta’s essence ! It took nearly a week, but it went for  9.5 million coins . Not quite full price, but I’m still thrilled. My bank now sits at  26 million gp —a number that feels both surreal and motivating. I can’t help but dream… will there come a day when I reach  100 million ? Imagine that! After the scrolls, I went back to work:  cooked all my fish  and then resumed fishing—this time for lobsters. I realized that one of the nicest spots to cook in F2P might just be the  campfire outside Draynor Bank , where the  Friendly Forester keeps a cozy fire lit at all times. It’s got a charming vibe, and it’s s...

TFG diaries: A Sea of Swordfish and Stories

Image
Tuesday 29 July 2025 Day 27 – A Sea of Swordfish and Stories It’s been a long and chill day of fishing swordfish and tuna on the beautiful island of Karamja. I decided to fish as much as 3,000 gp would allow — stocking up, slowly but surely. Since killing Ogresses requires a lot of food, I want to prepare a big stash so I can stay longer in the Cove. After this batch, I’ll probably switch back to lobsters and, hopefully, with everything cooked and ready, I’ll be set to train my Ranged skill all the way to that longed-for level 85. While fishing, I also kept an eye out for clue scrolls (always a nice surprise to get one mid-session!) and decided to pair the grind with some background YouTube videos — this time, focused on food and culture. I dove into the art of sushi-making in Japan and the incredible diversity of fish found there. I’ve always enjoyed food, even though I’m not exactly a cooking enthusiast. Still, I feel that being curious about the origins of dishes and recipes brings ...

TFG diaries: Tiny Chill Session on the Corsair Cove

Image
Monday 28 July 2025 Day 26 – Tiny Chill Session on the Corsair Cove Today I continued my grind with just a little game session. I’m almost halfway to reaching level 83 Ranged! I really enjoy the setting on this island — the green landscapes, the distant waves, and the wild little creatures wandering around make it such a peaceful place to train. Soon, once I'm done with the 400 lobsters I’ve brought, I’ll need to go hard again on the fishing grind to keep myself stocked with food. For now, that (rather than the arrows) is the limiting resource of this trip. Wishing you a gentle start to the week :) Bird Fact of the Day  🪺 Many small birds — including wrens and titmice — use tiny twigs, mosses, lichen, and even bits of plant fluff to build their nests. These materials help insulate the nest, camouflage it, and make it soft and safe for their chicks. So, what might look like a random stick to us is often the foundation of a bird’s family home. 🧚‍♀️Boots off, bow unstrung, and the g...

TFG diaries: Lobsters, Arrows, and Steady Shots

Image
Sunday, 27 July 2025 Day 25 –  Lobsters, Arrows, and Steady Shots Today I headed back to the Ogresses after fishing (and cooking!) a little over 1,000 lobsters. With that much food stocked up, I was free to camp all day without worrying—and fully focus on training my Ranged skills. I’m still really enjoying this spot. The loot is solid, the monsters are satisfying to fight, and although there are always a few other players in the dungeon, it’s never too crowded to get good XP and rhythm. That balance makes a big difference. For the next few days, I’m thinking of staying here to level up Ranged as much as I can—or at least until I finish the 6,000 adamant arrows I’ve got saved up. Today I reached  level 82 Ranged , and I’d love to get to  85  before switching to a new skill. Let’s see how far this grind takes me! 🕊️ Bird Fact of the Day Common city birds like the  House Wren  may be small, but they play big ecological roles. These tiny songbirds are mostly ...

TFG diaries: New Discoveries and Ogress Surprises

Image
Saturday, 26 July 2025 Day 24 – New Discoveries and Ogress Surprises After checking my stats, I realized my Ranged level had been feeling a bit... neglected. So, I packed my gear and headed down to Corsair Cove for the very first time. There, I discovered the joy of fighting Ogress Warriors and Shamans—and let me tell you, they did not disappoint! These monsters are  fun . They hit hard enough to keep things interesting and reward you with all sorts of goodies: rune items, uncut gems, and even a bit of gold. I didn’t expect it to feel so much like a mini treasure hunt, but it absolutely did. Unfortunately, this first grind couldn’t last long—I'm nearly out of food—but it still felt like a major win. Ogresses are now officially on my list of top 5 monsters to slay and chill with. No new levels today, but I’m already planning to hit the fishing spots and stock up on lobsters or swordfish, just to come right back and train more Ranged here! 🪙 Achievements of the Day Discovered Corsai...

TFG diaries: One Hundred Box Scrolls and Two F2P Bosses

Image
Friday, 25 July 2025 Day 23 – One Hundred Box Scrolls and Two F2P Bosses Okay, okay — new day, new grind, and actually… the last day of my  100 box scroll hunt ! Can you guess what happened? I started by crafting over  600 amulets of strength  and selling them off for a nice profit. Then I decided it was time for a little bossing. I headed to face  Bryophyta , one of the two F2P bosses. I had just over 30 mossy keys saved in the bank, and since I heard there’d been a recent update to her (and to Obor), I  had  to check it out. To my surprise, the fight did change a bit! Taking down the three growthlings felt smoother — wielding the axe seems to help. Aside from that, it’s mostly the same, but I still enjoyed it.  Biggest highlight?  I got  Bryophyta’s essence , her most valuable drop — let’s gooo! But here’s the kicker: Bryophyta drops a  clue scroll  with every kill! That made it incredibly fast to stack up more and more… and I alm...

TFG diaries: One Last Cast: Farewell, Barbarian River

Image
Tuesday, 24 July 2025 Day 22 — One Last Cast: Farewell, Barbarian River Here comes the last day of fishing! After days beside the waters of Barbarian Village, I’m about 90% through level 82, ready to land that sweet 83 Fishing and call it a wrap. It’s been a long, calm grind — with more trout and salmon than I can count — but I’m already thinking of what’s next. First stop: turning all these uncut rubies into amulets of strength and making some well-earned coins. Let’s wrap up today by honoring the progress: 📜  Levels gained:  83 Fishing, 85 Cooking 💎  Looted & bought:  515 uncut rubies 🎁  Reward caskets banked:  65! What’s next? Maybe a fresh skill to hunt more clue scrolls... maybe something a little more leafy? I’ll reflect on it while stringing those ruby amulets, one by one. 🪶  Bird fact of the day: Not all places are bursting with bird diversity — some countries, especially smaller or more isolated ones, have only a handful of species. He...

TFG diaries: Past Sixty, Still Clicking: Soon Leaving the Barbarian Waters

Image
Wednesday, 23 July 2025 Day 21 - Past Sixty, Still Clicking: Soon Leaving the Barbarian Waters Alright, people — I started today with a strong wish to finish all the feathers needed for another Fishing level, and the last of this grind! I also managed to stack four box scrolls and solve them, bringing my total to  63 reward caskets!  🎉 There’s something else I wanted to share: I know I can stack box scrolls by training my combat skills, but the main reason I’m not doing that is because I already have plenty of motivation to level combat — both for the loot and the action-packed experience itself. It’s just more dynamic. But for the other skills — most of which I’ve already maxed out as a F2P in terms of unlockable content — this clue scroll hunt is what’s giving them new life. It makes these slower skills more exciting and worth doing. Yay! I just got to  level 85 Cooking , and right after that, while chopping a tree for just one log, I finally got what I’d been fa...

TFG diaries: Streams of Progress and Feathery Reflections

Image
Tuesday , 22 July 2025 🌊 Day 20 – Streams of Progress and Feathery Reflections Hello there! Today’s session was short but fruitful — quite literally, with a new  Fishing level: 82!  🎣 Slowly but surely, I’m swimming through the levels, and I’ve now used more than half of my 11,000 feathers. I only got  one clue box scroll (sigh), but still, I’m making gains: Fishing, Cooking, and even… gem shopping? Yes! I’ve started selling cooked fish and buying  uncut rubies  at 1,000 gp each. I already have  over 200 of them!  I get the feeling these are more common in members’ worlds, because in F2P they’re pretty rare. But I like this slow trade-off system: feathers into fish, fish into coins, coins into sparkly red stones. Seems fair, right? Also, a fun realization today: I’m getting scarily close to the 90s in multiple skills, and the thought of those shiny 99 capes is tempting. But then I remembered — going from  level 92 to 99  is the  same X...

TFG diaries: The River Grind Rolls On 🐟

Image
Monday, 21 July 2025 Day 19 - The River Grind Rolls On 🐟 Hello everyone! A new day, a new week — and the progress continues. I just hit level 81 Fishing! 🎣 To keep things fresh (and keep the motivation going), I started selling every batch of 400 or so trout and salmon, using the gold to buy uncut rubies. Since clue scrolls come more slowly now than they did with mining, these little goals help keep the rhythm going. I still have over 8,000 feathers left, so there’s a long road ahead, but I’m excited to keep going. Just now, I got another clue scroll box — finally! Even though I can hold up to five, it feels natural to solve them after stacking four, just like I did during my mining days. So far, I have 59 Reward Caskets banked! (It should’ve been 60, but I misclicked and opened one — only cabbages inside… RIP 🥬). It feels unlikely that I’ll hit another burst of four or five scrolls like before, so I’m setting a new mini-goal for today: let’s go for Cooking level 84! 🐟🔥 🪶 Bi...

TFG diaries: River Rhythms and the Scroll Hunt

Image
Sunday, 20 July 2025 Day 18 —  River Rhythms and the Scroll Hunt Happy Sunday, adventurers! Today marks the beginning of a new chapter in my clue scroll grind—I've swapped my pickaxe for a fishing rod and set off to gather more scroll boxes by the riverbanks. 🎣 I began by using all the fishing bait I had stocked up to catch some pike. I think this might be my first time fishing pike, and I did it mainly because Charlie the Tramp sometimes asks for one in his clue scroll steps. After that, I moved on to feathers, aiming for trout and salmon, hoping to catch some scroll boxes and make a little profit on the side. Yesterday, I mentioned that it felt strange only getting four scroll boxes while mining. Well… turns out there  is  a limit: the maximum number of scroll boxes you can hold at once is five! It’s always good to read the update logs carefully, lol. Now, back to today’s fishing efforts—I managed to catch over 400 pike without a single scroll box. Not going to ...

TFG diaries: 92 Mining Unlocked – The Pickaxe Rests

Image
Saturday, 19 July 2025 Day 17 —  92 Mining Unlocked – The Pickaxe Rests Finally!!!  Ladies and gentlemen, dudes and dudettes, adventurers of all kinds: the grind has paid off— Level 92 Mining is here  🎉 (by the way, this means I've  hit the halfway mark to 99 👀) !  After countless hours deep in the Falador Mining Guild, I’ve emerged with not just a leveled-up skill, but a  mountain  of ores and  55 shiny Reward casquets  stacked in the bank. Now that the mining phase of this adventure is complete, it’s time to leave behind the pickaxe—at least for now—and set out on new skilling paths. I’ll be focusing on fishing and woodcutting to keep hunting for clue scrolls and building up the second half of my casquet goal. One curious thing I’ve noticed: whenever I try to stack up clue scroll boxes, I always seem to cap out at four before RNG decides to ghost me on the fifth. Coincidence? Maybe. Suspicious? Most definitely. 😂 Still, I always make sur...

TFG diaries: A Mountain of Ores and the Mid-Clue Mark

Image
Friday, 18 July 2025 Day 16 —  A Mountain of Ores and the Mid-Clue Mark Hello adventurers! Happy Friday to you all! 🎉 Today, I spent all my time camped at our favorite mining spot, staying committed to the goal of collecting 100 clue scrolls. The grind is real—but so is the progress! I'm now at  72.3%  toward level  92 Mining , and the excitement grows with every swing of the pickaxe. I’ve now stacked up  40 clue scroll casquets , which is getting me  so  close to that beautiful halfway point. I can't wait to open them all—hopefully I’ll find some flashy fashion scape or even a shoulder parrot to sell for some juicy gp. Fingers crossed! A fun little moment: twice today, I managed to get  two clue scrolls in a single mining run , which added a spark of motivation to the rhythm. The Mining Guild has been mostly quiet today, which meant I didn’t have to compete for ores—just peaceful grinding with a cozy vibe. I love that. My bank is filling up fast...

TFG diaries: Ores, Scrolls, and Strange Encounters

Image
Thursday, 17 July 2025 Day 15 – Ores, Scrolls, and Strange Encounters  ⛏ Today, I’ve been steadily gathering more and more ores in the Falador Mining Guild. The clue scroll grind is slowly but surely stacking up, though I’ll admit it’s starting to feel a little slow and a bit monotonous at times. Still, something unexpected happened that added a strange kind of liveliness to the day. I had a social encounter that reminded me of how other players in this game can act quite funny—almost childish—when faced with a “competitor” at the rocks. One player in particular caught my attention. I think he was trying to annoy me into switching worlds or leaving the mining spot, because he started following me and spamming mocking emotes in my direction. At first, I felt a bit anxious, like, why is this person targeting me? But after a few minutes, I relaxed. I was still getting ores just fine (hehe), and eventually I found it funny. I figured they were probably just a kid having fun in their ow...

TFG diaries: Small Steps, Big Gains

Image
🪓 Wednesday, 16 July 2025 Day 14: Small Steps, Big Gains So for today I couldn’t play as long as I wanted, but I still enjoyed collecting more box scrolls and solving them to bank the caskets. I ended the day with  12 caskets!  🎉 Not bad at all for a short session. I stayed the whole time in the  Falador Mining Guild , where I managed to mine  2,000 coal ,  1,000 gold ores , and  800 adamantite ores —that’s a great stash to smelt later on! 🔥 Since clue scroll drops from mining can be a little slow at times, I was also thinking about switching it up—maybe heading to  woodcutting  or  fishing  soon, since those skills also drop beginner clue scrolls. We’ll see! For now, that’s all for today. Take care everyone! 🐦  Bird Fact of the Day Birds can be powerful indicators of a healthy ecosystem. For example, the presence of sensitive species like  woodpeckers, tanagers, or wrens  in a forest can reveal that the habitat has su...

TFG essays: An Appreciation of Slowness — Through the Game, Through the Grind

Image
🪨 Tuesday, 15 July - 2025 Day 14: An Appreciation of Slowness — Through the Game, Through the Grind I believe it’s important for anyone who plays Old School RuneScape—especially as a free-to-play player—to consider slowness as a core element to embrace. This is a game where leveling a skill or reaching a goal can take hundreds, even thousands, of hours. One reason I enjoy it so deeply is that, in real life, I’ve always felt I move more slowly than others. I take longer to make decisions, to start things, and to understand. In this way, OSRS feels like a world that respects my pace. That’s not to say the game forces you into a slow rhythm. In fact, one of its greatest strengths is that you can choose your path and pace at any moment. But slowness is always there, always an option—especially pronounced for free-to-play players. With fewer tools and options, we learn to value the long road. We level slower. We earn gold slower. And yet, that slow path becomes deeply meaningful. Right now...

TFG diaries: Let's get some clue scrolls while mining!

Image
Monday, 14th of July – 2025 Day #13: Let's get some clue scrolls while mining! Beginning the clue scroll farming in the Falador Mining Guild Good day, everyone! I'm officially diving into my new goal of collecting 100 beginner clue scrolls right here in the Falador Mining Guild. Now that I’m getting a feel for how long this grind might take, I’m finding it really enjoyable to pair it with something I love deeply in real life: learning about birds. Although not directly related to OSRS, I'm a biologist with a huge interest in studying birds. They’ve been the spark of my curiosity in the natural world for years. So during this grind, I’ve been watching and listening to content on bird biology — it’s such a rewarding combo: mining in Gielinor while filling my head with avian facts! Back to the game — it’s been a couple of hours, and I’ve collected four clue scrolls so far. I’ve decided I’ll stack at least 10 of them before solving. Once completed, I’ll stash the reward caskets...
